DIXON – The number of Solano County museums will grow to ten when the Dixon History Museum opens its doors. The long-term dream of the Dixon Historical Society has been to establish a museum to preserve the heritage of Dixon and to engage residents and visitors in understanding the cultural, social, and economical development of the community beginning with the early inhabitants up to the present time.

Dixon’s history includes the communities of Batavia, Maine Prairie, Binghamton, Silveyville and Tremont. Most of these communities were abandoned before the turn of the twentieth century due to flooding, fire, the economy and even disease, but their history is an integral part of Dixon’s past. Many families from those communities chose to move to Dixon and some even brought their homes with them, by rolling them on logs.

Family treasures are brought to the museum almost daily by residents interested in contributing to telling Dixon’s story. Many of the treasures are loaned to the museum, while others have been donated for preservation.
Volunteers from ages 15-95 are needed and welcomed.
