October is traditionally a month full of sweet treats, and we’ve found a few “cool” gems to satisfy your craving!

The Good Scoop

DIXON – Dixon has scored a sweet treat with the Good Scoop ice cream parlor. This farm-fresh, handcrafted, pure and organic ice cream is made from the finest all-natural ingredients. All of their ice creams are made in small batches and concentrate on locally sourced ingredients including organic cream from the Straus Family Creamery. Good Scoop also has space for ice cream socials and offers event catering.

The cafe is minimal, clean and very friendly. Their entire menu is ice cream, so get ready for a delicious creamy high! After tasting some amazing offerings, we chose a scoop of the Amaretto Peaches and Cream, Honey Lavender, Chocolate Banana and Almond Joy. They were all spectacular! Their menu changes monthly so go and go often!

1160 Pitt School Rd Suite A in Dixon.
Open Tuesday – Thursday: 5-8pm, Friday – Sunday: 3-9pm and closed Mondays.

CREAM

VACAVILLE – Vacaville has got your sweet tooth covered with CREAM! Known for their ice cream sandwiches made with homemade cookies, this highly styled ice cream shop is an up and coming franchise that also offers scoops, sundaes, cakes, shakes, floats and yes, even tacos … all made with delicious ice cream!

The first thing you’ll notice is the high-energy blasts of colored graphics and display of dipped cones, cookies and photos of many menu items.

We decided to try the Donut Ice Cream Sandwich made with Salted Caramel. These are mix and match items so you can pick and choose as you like. Small, but super tasty! We topped it off with a dipped chocolate chip plain cone filled with Chocolate Almond Fudge. Cream offers a rewards program to save some pennies and keep you coming back as well as catering for all your events.

Baja Ice Cream

FAIRFIELD – Possibly my favorite of the bunch was Baja Ice Cream in Fairfield, offering a jazzy interior with some very interesting treats and a sweet, friendly staff!

Baja Ice Cream offers a large assortment of flavors listed in both English and Spanish. We opted for a crêpe filled with fresh strawberries and bananas, Nutella and a creamy chocolate sauce with a side scoop of maple pecan ice cream, topped high with whipped cream. The staff makes these large crêpes right in front of you which is an entertaining mouth-watering treat in itself. Don’t forget to try the Eggnog and White Macadamia Nut flavors, which are both spectacular.

Baja Ice Cream offers scoops, crêpe’s, Aguas Frescas, a 100% natural juice bar and smoothies.

Open Tuesday – Friday: 10am-9pm, Saturday – Sunday: 10am-10pm, closed Mondays.

Double Rainbow Cafe

BENICIA – Looking for a getaway day that includes a stop at a little old-fashioned local ice cream parlor? Visit Double Rainbow Cafe in Benicia where you can indulge in lunch with sweet treats to follow.

Located in the heart of historic Benicia’s downtown, Double Rainbow Cafe is a favorite affordable joint with the locals. They offer a few hot food selections like chicken tenders, corn dogs/hot dogs and French fries as well as fancy teas, coffees and assorted handmade smoothies.

We walked the bay and then popped into Double Rainbow Cafe for a simple after-dinner scoop of Jamoca Almond Fudge and French Vanilla which is always delicious, but the real treat here is to enjoy your dessert while watching the sunset over the bay. This is a great affordable family escape you shouldn’t miss.
