Green River Brewing & Taproom

WINTERS –

Green River Brewing offers a totally unique concept; a self-serve taproom featuring 25 different beers and ciders that change periodically. They also have a full bar serving cocktails and wine.

When sampling the beers, you’ll be given a beer card in exchange for a credit card to start your tab.

Make your selections from the beer wall and you’ll be charged by the ounce. To accompany your beverage, choose from a good variety of delicious appetizers, sandwiches and pizzas. We really enjoyed their amazing Markley Cove Artichoke Cheese Dip (served hot in a cast-iron kettle with baguette bread), the tasty Bacon Wrapped Shrimp appetizer and the Little Rock Pizza.

Open daily, they’re at 4513 Putah Creek Rd. in Winters. For more information, call (530) 681-5346 or visit greenriverbrewingandtaproom.com.

Rose Garden Thai Restaurant

VACAVILLE – For nearly ten years, Rose Garden has provided fine quality Thai cuisine in a pleasant setting with fast and gracious service.

Their menu has a nice variety of appetizers, salads, soups, fried rice, pan-fried noodles, entrées, sides, and desserts. They also have a separate Dinner Special Menu, listing the appetizer and entrée specials featured that day.

We really enjoyed the unique Rose Garden Prawns appetizer (10 plump prawns wrapped in crunchy egg noodles, served with sweet and sour chili sauce) as well as Crab Fried Rice and Garlic Tilapia (with broccoli, onions, bell peppers). Both were delicious and beautifully plated.

For dessert, the Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango or Taro is a real treat.

They are open daily at 898 Alamo Drive in Vacaville. For more information, please call (707) 446-1624 or visit them at rosegardenthairestaurant.com.

Delta Soul

FAIRFIELD – A new addition to the Food Court at Solano Town Center, Delta Soul stunned us with their great selection and quality Memphis-style BBQ offerings.

JoJo’s BBQ Ribs, a generous portion of marinated, dry rub and slow-smoked ribs, come with either Honey BBQ or Memphis Spicy sauce, but did not need either as it was well-seasoned, delicious, meaty, and fall-off-the-bone tender.

Ms. Mary’s Fried Basa, an 8-oz filet of white, flaky fish, seasoned and battered, was excellent—not at all oily, but crispy outside, moist and tender inside.

Other entrées include Uncle Jimmy’s Hot Links, Bubba’s Jambalaya, Papa Pete’s Pulled Pork, Charley’s 3-pc Chicken, Shrimp Po’ Boys, and Soul Bowls, served with two sides. Servers offer samples to help you make your picks.

Open daily at 1350 Travis Blvd. in Fairfield, they also cater. Call (888) 920-0747.

Istanbul Café Kabob House

FAIRFIELD – For an authentic Turkish meal, visit Istanbul Café. The friendly staff is eager to please your palate with their tasty offerings, most of which are made from scratch.

We began with the Hummus appetizer (puréed chick peas, lemon juice and olive oil, sprinkled with paprika) and
an order of Turkish Cheese Bread, freshly baked and topped with a generous amount of mozzarella cheese.

Entrées include several meat dishes (seasoned ground lamb, marinated beef and chicken, and lamb chops), sandwiches and doner (kabob) platters. The ground lamb is so flavorful and the chicken very tender, but my favorite was the grilled baby lamb chops. All entrées are served with jasmine rice and mixed greens salad.

Open Monday – Saturday, they are located at 628 Parker Rd. in Fairfield (outside Travis AFB). Catering is also offered. Call (707) 803-5112.
