Take the dads and grads in your life out for a fun experience or order in during the busy month of June!

Pikul Thai Bistro

FAIRFIELD – For a quick meal or grab-and-go, try Fairfield’s new authentic Pikul Thai Bistro.

This small Thai bistro offers some of the freshest, cleanest and elegantly prepared selections in the area.

We started with the Fresh Rolls w/Mango and Basil Wonton w/ Ground Chicken (both 6-piece), both outstanding!  We moved right to an order of the Tom Kha, a Thai coconut soup with lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf. The aroma alone will keep you entertained! We finished our meal with the Pad Eggplant–served with bell pepper, onions and basil in a garlic sauce and a small side salad (one of their lighter selections).

1305 Gateway Blvd., Suite E5, Fairfield

BENICIA– Plan a little family day trip to Matsuri in Benicia and include a short walk in the downtown historic district where you’ll enjoy quaint shops sprinkled all the way to the bay.

This tiny restaurant on 1st Street has a friendly atmosphere, a small sushi bar and dining options inside and out.

Matsuri offers many fresh sushi (with rice) and sashimi (without rice) options and daily specials, as well as a few fully cooked meals for the non-sushi lover. We chose a bit of both starting with the (Spicy) Rainbow Roll (California roll of cooked crab and avocado in a rolled sticky rice topped with several fresh raw fish selections), the Mahi Mahi (fried in Japanese bread crumbs) and the a la carte dinner, Teriyaki Salmon (grilled salmon).

VACAVILLE – This new place is right up dad’s alley! Vinh Kee Noodle House in Vacaville is a great value choice for dads, families, dining in or taking out!

The first thing you’ll notice is the super clean, open atmosphere and the two large-screen TVs playing an array of sports.

We arrived for lunch and the options were a bit limited, as the chef wasn’t arriving until 3pm. We started with the Crispy Egg Rolls ($4.99) and Pot Stickers ($5.99), both were amazing and piping hot! We also split a large bowl of Boneless Chicken Noodle Soup/Pho Ga ($7.99) that came with a garnished bowl of fresh garlic and ginger. The soup was very fresh in a homemade style that was very mild, so add that garlic and ginger!

Dine in with family-style menu options or call in for take-out. Open 11am-8:30pm Wednesday-Monday.

Lester Farms Bakery

WINTERS – This bakery is hopping with clientele. We arrived around lunchtime and the place was filled with young people enjoying lunch inside and out. This full-service bakery offers breakfast and lunch sandwich selections ordered from the counter as well as hundreds of on-site breads, pastries, cakes and pies on display. There is a limited dining area, so it’s a great take-out option. We were overwhelmed with the selections and finally opted for the decadent Macaroons drizzled with chocolate, a single slice of Cherry Cheesecake and a mini Apple Crumb Pie to go. Everything was fresh and delicious!

Order custom cakes and pies for your next event or stop in for specialty breads and daily treats with many single-serving options.

Open Mon-Tues 5:30am-2pm, Wed-Fri 5:30am-4:30pm, Sat-Sun 6am-4:30pm. Gluten free options.
